The Portland Fire Department was alerted to the report of a heavily involved garage fire extending to the single family home at 31 Castine Avenue at 2:42 pm on Monday, March 30, 2026. The first arriving unit found advanced fire conditions matching the initial description, striking the second alarm at 2:47pm. Fire extension to the structure at 27 Castine Avenue saw the third alarm struck at 2:51 pm. A sigificant amount of the fire was considered knocked down at 3:05 pm leading to extensive overhaul between the two buildings.
The fire was considered under control around 3:25 pm. Castne Avenue and the immediately adjacent section of Forest Avenue were closed during initial operations. Forest Avenue and Castine Avenue are currently open as the last units cleared the fire scene shortly after 6:00 pm after overhauling and addressing hotspots.
The fire is under investigation. At this time there is no information available related to cause or origin. No injuries were reported to occupants, pets or firefighters. The Red Cross was notified to assist the occupants of both buildings.
