Early this month Sustainable Food News reported that Hawaii began constructing its first certified organic commercial urban rooftop farm on top of a car dealership.
The rooftop farm is designed by FarmRoof, Oahu, and is 38,000 square feet of organic farm products.
The rooftop farm will supply commuity, retailers and chefs with healthy and nutrient-dense crops such as heirloom kale, argula and mustard greens.
The installatio is part of landowner Kamehaneha Schools’ vision to redevelop Kakaako into a healthy and sustainable urban community.
