Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) Fights to Save His Leadership Today.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) appears to have lost the first round of votes to retain his speakership in the House this afternoon.  He lost three Republican votes which is all it took for him to lose the vote to retain his leadership role that is backed by Trump.

Cable news pundits speculate that the three vote loss was a good sign for Johnson.because it could have been a larger number of defections.  Such as the large vote against Kevin McCarthy;s leadership battle.

Johnson is reported to have put out on social media that he supported forming a task force to work with Musk’s  imaginary DOGE committee to recommend spending cuts hoping to pacify his critics.  And as a result of that, a report would be issued on those recommendations.  Speaking of Elon Musk, a report in today’s “The Wall Street Journal” says that sales of his car company, Tesla dropped during 2024.  For the entire year of 2024, Telsa salee are down about 1 % from  2023..

Meanwhile, a decision is being made by House leaders on how to proceed from the above vote.  Should the House adjourn until further notice or whether or not a second vote is in the immediate future in Washington, DC.  This leadership needs to be resolved in order for the January 6 certification of Trump to take place.

The three Repreentative hold outs are Representatives Phelps, Massie and Norman.
