Senator Susan Collins (R) announced today that she will not be supporting the nomination of Scott Pruitt for administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. MHN.com learned of her decision by press releases from both the Sierra Club Maine Chapter and by the National Resources Council of Maine. Her original announcement was made today on Maine Public Radio.
Non-profits have lobbied her heavily as well as members of the public to oppose his nomination because of his anti- environmental record. For example. as attorney general of the state of Oklahoma, he sued the EPA on fourteen different occasions.
Environment Maine is one of the non-profits that applauds her decision: “As attorney general, Scott Pruitt joined with polluters to file fourteen (14) lawsuits against the very agency he has bee nominated to run. These suits aimed to dismantle critical public health safeguards ranging from the Clean Water Rule that protects drinking water sources for 117 million Americans to the Mercury and “Air Toxic rule that protects our kids and other vulnerable clients from highly damaging pollution…” wrote Laura Doyle, Campaign Director, for Environment Maine in a press release.
