Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) took a poke at President Trump today when she made the timid comment that Trump’s public invitation to China to investigate the Biden family was “completely inappropriate” according to CNN television Saturday evening.
Earlier this week, Trump made a statement in front of the White House. He invited China, the most corrupt country in the world when it comes to human rights, to participate in an investigation of his leading Democratic opponent in the 2020 presidential race, Joe Biden. China has since responded it will not participate in such an investigation.
This timid poke at Trump was risky for her because Trump is obsessed with punching back harder when anyone is critical of him and his behavior Knowing that he is likely to be impeached by the House, he is even more sensitive to criticism, particularly from Republicans. Timid pokes will not reverse her unpopularity with Maine voters.
But she undoubtedly knows that she is vulnerable to defeat next November – largely because of her vote for Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. Although her support of the Trump tax plan and other decisions began her downward spiral, the Kavanaugh vote was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Women in southern Maine are united in their opposition to her re-election next year.
Recently, it was revealed herein that there is only one Senator in Washington less popular than she is: “Moscow” Mitch.
