On Saturday, November 25, 2023, at approximaely 10:30 am., the Sanford Fire Department responded to a fire in a wooded area near Eagle Drive in Sanford.  The officials located the remains of an adult male and contacted the Fire Marshall’s Office to investigate and process the scene.  The remains were located in a makeshift tent that was destroyed by the fire.

The remains were transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusa where an autopsy will  be performed to determine positive identification.  The cause of the fire still is under investigation.  The Sanford Police Department and Maine State Police assisted on scene according to Shannon Moss, Public Information Officer for the State Department of Public Safety this afternoon.
