The US Capitol Under Attack on January 6 by Right-wingers Led by The Donald and His Cronies.

‘UNTHINKABLE – Truma, Truth and the Trials of American Democracy,” by US Congressman Jamie Raskin is For Sale at Sherman’s Books. for $27.99 plus tax. It Is The Moving Story of the December 31 Suicide of Raskin’s Only Son and the Subseqent Attack on the US Capitol and Democracy on January 6th.

Monument Square in downtown Portland will be the site of a candelight Vigil for Democracy to commemorate the first anniversary of the right-wing attack supported by The Donald on democracy at the US Capitol a year ago.  It runs from 5:30 pm – 6:15 pm. on Thursday, January 6, 2022.

As “The New York Times” so aptly pointed out today in an editorial, we need not wait for January 6th to recall the horrors of that day. We see the aftermath of that everyday. Although it’s no laughing matter, it reminds this blogger of the COVID pandemic in some ways.  It’s everywhere.  It spreads easily. And it’s deadly.

Republican State politicians  trying to pass legislation  to nullify real election outcomes in  states such as Pennsylvania, Arkansas, Georgia and Wisconsin are an everyday reminder of January 6th.

Furthermore, The Donald and his cronies continue to spread lies about election fraud. Too many Republicans believe those lies.  Maine’s Senator Susan Collins (R) continues to maintain her silence and not speak up. Don’t most Mainers wish Collins had courage and a conscious like Rep. Liz Cheney (R)?   Cheney has been dogged in her courage to find the truth of the attack on our democracy.   Her courage is just another reminder of the compliance of most Republicans, even though they know better.

It won’t be better until The Donald and his cronies in this treasonous behavior experience the full impact of the US judicial system that is coming due.

Numerous similar candelight Vigils are planned across the country. .Events marking this first anniversary will be held in Washington, D.C. including a candelight vigil on the steps of the Capitol and events planned by Speaker Nancy Pelosi.  President Biden plans to address the nation the same day.  Republicans will not be participating in any of the activities in the Capitol on January 6, 2022.  Probably because some of them helped planned the Insurrection.

“A House Divided Against Itself Cannot Stand,” by President Abraham Lincoln, a Republican.

In Maine, there will  be addidtional events in:

Camden, at 5;30 pm on the Green; Lewiston at 1:30 pm at Dufresne; Newcastle at 5:00 pm at Veterans Park; and Bangor at 3:30 pm at 202 Harlow Street.  Numerous events are planned nationwide to commemorate the first anniversary of the attack on democracy at the US Capitol.
