Alarming Number of Overdoses Hit Portland Since Before Christmas

Since December 24, 2021, there have been 2 fatal overdoses and 21 nonfatal overdoses according to a press release issued this afternoon by the Portland Police Department.  Narcan was administered by the first responders or bystanders in 14 of the 21 reported overdoses.  During the same period last year, the Portland Police Department reported 9 nonfatal overdoses and zero fatalities – a 133% increase.

The Portland Police Department and Portland Public Health are urging city residents to be aware of avaiilable access to Narcan and other harm reduction strategies.
