Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D) today announced $10.4 million for the city of Portland to improve accessibility at the Portland Internatioal Jetport terminal.  The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airport Terminals Program award, made possible through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, funds the installaltion of new passenger boarding bridges and fixed bridge extensions from terminal buildings to serve multiple aircraft parked at numerous gates.

The $10.4 million  project also includes a new full gate concourse, public restroom with adjacent gender-neutral bathroooms, adult changing space, a pet relief area and an expansion of the hold room.

“Thanks to the historic investments in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, airport terminals across the nation are being modernized and improved to be safer, more sustainable and more accessible,” said Pingree.  “Whether visitors coming to our great state or Mainers returning home from away, it’s important our airports meet the needs of modern travelers.  The significant federal funding for terminal improvements will help the Portland International Jetport better accommodate its manay travelers and address glaring needs to increase gate accessibility.

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law allocated $5 billion to provide competitive grants for airport development and accessible airport terminals, on-airport rail access projects and airport-owned airport traffic control towers.
