Portland Foreside to Hold Neighborhood Meeting Next Month on 58 Fore Street Development

The public is invited to attend a neighborhood meeting at the East End Community School cafeteria, 195 North Street on Tuesday, May 2.  The meeting runs from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm.  At the meeting Portland Foreside Development Company will present its plans for the development of Block 5 at 58 Fore Street on the Munjoy Hill waterfront.

This Block includes a 128-room hotel, 43 condominium units and 42,700 sf of retail space.

The first phase of construction of Portland Foreside is complete and the developer is proposing to continue the site’s developments with the build out of Blocks 4, 5 and 6.  Neighborhood meetings were held on December 20, 2022 and January 8, 2023.  A summary of those blocks will be held at the May 2nd meeting.  However, this meeting will focus on Block 5.

In November 2022, a Major Site Plan application was filed with the city of Portland Planning Division on behalf of the applicant for Blocks 4 and 6.  Additional information has been submitted to the city expanding that Phase 2 Major Site Plan application to now include Block 5 in addition to Blocks 4 and 6.

Portland Yacht Services, formerly owned by Phineas Sprague, Jr. of Cape Elizabeth, was sold to the Portland Foreside Development Co. to develop the almost ten acres of waterfront property.  Portland Yacht Services, then moved to 100 West Commercial Street, where it greatly expanded its services to both leisure boats and commercial boats as well.  The 58 Fore Street location was for many years the site of the emormously popular annual boat builders show as well as the annual flower show.
