A multi-generational group of Peaks Island voters and residents will be visiting the office of Senator Susan Collins (R), One Canal Plaza around 10:45 am tomorrow, Friday, February 10th. The group is asking the Senator to hold a Town Hall meeting here in Portland between February 20th and 24th.
A letter signed by Christina (Rusty) Foster to be delivered by the group states the group’s concern over the Trump agenda. Although she listens and sometimes votes on behalf of Maine values, the signees have many concerns and questions they have not been able to communicate to her because her phone lines have been busy or her mail boxes filled and unable to accept messages. This inability to get through to the Senator does not inspire confidence that she is really listening or hearing the concerns of Peaks Island residents. The group will be taking the 10:00 am Casco Bay Ferry from Peaks Island to arrive at the Senator’s office at 10:45 am.
The letter stated they are concerned about her support for the repeal of the Affordable Care Act, her support of AG Jeff Sessions and Trump’s Muslim ban among other issues. (What about the Senator’s vote to prevent Senator Elizabeth Warren from quoting Coretta Scott King on the Senate floor?)
The letter respectfully requests that Senator Collins agree to meet her Portland area constituents at a Town Hall meeting sometime between February 20 – 24th. Foster said that she would be glad to assist the Senator by making arrangements for such a Town Hall meeting in the Portland area – if she gives the green light.
