
In the Right Forefront, you May be Able to Distinguish the Ship With the Fire Aboard it This Morning in the Engine Room Near Ocean Gateway.
A Portland Fire Department crew was dispatched at 7:25 am this morning to respond to 14 Ocean Gateway Pier for smoke in the engine room of a visiting cruise ship: American Queen Voyages. Fire Departmet crews arrived at the scene at 7:28 am., receiving reports of an explosion in the engine room, possibly related to an onboard generator and that one member of the ship’s crew had been burned according to a press release issued by the Fire Department this morning.
The cruise ship is carrying 128 passengers and 82 crew members. Most of the passengers are on land today doing tours and sightseeig.
The Portland Fire Department crews worked quickly to treat and transport one crew member with serious injuries to a local hospital. Addiional crews were simultaneously able to stabilize the engine room issue and remained on scene to assist with extensive ventilation efforts and complete overhaul to prevent any further spread.
The incident was considered under control at 7:44 am with the ship evacuated, all passengers accounted for and the remaining members of the crew also accounted for. There were no additidonal injuries to passengers, crew or Portland Fire Department responders.
