You are invited to attend a book launch of “Hunger Hill,” by Philip C. Baker to celebrate the publication of his first novel. The launch gets off to a festive start at Three of Strong Spirits, 35 B Diamond Street, Portland. It starts at 3:00 pm – and runs until 6:00 pm with a reading by the author at 4:00 pm.
The paperback book is a crime thriller set on Munjoy Hill. If the contents of the book are half as appealing as the covers of this book, the reader is in for a great read. Both front and back covers will be familiar to residents of the Hill and those who have visited the area. The covers were painted by the author’s niece Elisie Bolduc, a self-taught artist, who is best known for her animal paintings. She and her husband and infant son live near Augusta.
This book is the first in a series of four books that author Baker is writing. The second book will take place in western Maine, the third book in Down East and the fourth and final in “The County.” Because it’s a series of books, the cast of characters will be the same throughout the series. Baker has always wanted to write this series. Ten years ago he told his mother he was going to write a novel, so he was committed to do it!!
Because he is not retired. Baker has to limit his writing to weekends. But everyday he thinks about writing and then has to wait until the end of the day to incorporate his new ideas into his writing.
Copies of “Hunger Hill” may be purchased at the Hilltop Superette, at the corner of North and Congress Streets on Munjoy HIll. Or, of course, you may purchase an autographed copy at the book launch tomorrow afternoon. The cost is $19.95. Sherman’s Maine Coast Book Shop, 49 Exchange Street is also selling the book.
Three of Strong Spirits, the host for the launch. will be offering its full cocktail and snack menu throughout the evening.
