“We are working collaboratively with Greater Portland Peer Services to see if we can provide additional funding for the warming center at First Parish Church,” said Scott Thistle, commuications director for MaineHousing in Augusta, this afternoon.
Thistle was referring to the news that Ben Skillings of Greater Portland Peer Services has stated that without additional funding, it will be unable to continue to provide a warming shelter for more than a few more days. The Church is located at 425 Congress Street, in Portland. “We have prioritized this work so that we can make a determination as quickly as possible,” said Thistle. “There are several guys working on this.”
Thistle would not confirm the specific amount of $200,000. as the amount the non-profit Greater Portland Peer Services has requested, although that is the amount reported in today’s “Portland Press Herald” front page story.
