Ever since the possibility of a winter snow storm striking the Portland area was announced several days ago, business has been up said Tim Currier, manager of Maine Hardware, 274 St. John Street, Portland, this afternoon. Currier would not say by how much business has increased during the last several days, however.
Sales have increased for ice melt, shovels, winter jackets and propane for propane heaters. Among customers purchasing propane was an employee of Preble Street, He was purchasing a small quantity of proposane for a homeless man in Portland..
“People are delaying purchasing some items because they want to be surer than they are today as to whether or not the Portland area will get hit by this storm,” said Currier. “Christmas is just over and people are reluctant to spend money if they don’t have to.”
Hannaford Brothers, Forest Avenue, was busy as well. “Business is up 20% to 30% today,” said a manager. “I’m sure it’ll be busier tomorrow. This crowd is like it used to be before a Patriots game – that is when they were winning,” he said chuckling. He went on to predict Coach Belicheck’s future with the Patriots……..!
I simply enjoy the useful details you provide in your writings.
