Governor Janet T. Mills (D) Issues Statement on Notification of the Investigation by the US Department of Education on the Maine Department of Education Ordered by the Convicted Felon Trump. He’s a Convicted Felon and not King as he Would Like to be,
Governor Janet T. Mills (D) released the following statement early this evening in response to the US Department of Education notifying the Maine Department of Education that it has been directed to initiate an investigation of the State of Maine over alleged Title IX violations:
“I have spent my career — as a District Attorney, as Attorney General, and now as Governor — standing up for the rule of law in Maine and America. To me, that is fundamentally what is at stake here: the rule of law of our country. No President — Republican or Democrat — can withhold Federal funding authorized and appropriated by Congress and paid for by Maine taxpayers in an effort to coerce someone into compliance with his will. It is a violation of our Constitution and of our law, which I took an oath to uphold.
“Maine may be one of the first states to undergo an investigation by this Admnistration, but we won’t be the last. Today, the President of the US has targeted one particular group on one particular issue which Maine law has adddressed. But you must ask yourself, who and what will he target next, and what will he do? Will it be you? Will it be because of your race or your religion? Will it be because you look different or think differently? Where does it end? In America, the President is neither King nor a dictator, as much as this one tries to act like it—–and it is the rule of law that prevents him from being so.
“I imagine that the outcome of this politically directed investigation is all but predetermined. My Administration will work with the Attorney General to defend the interests of Maine people in the court of law. But do not be misled: This is not just about who competes on the athletic field, this is about whether a President can force compliance with his will without regard for the rule of law that governs our nation. I believe he cannot,” the Governor’s statement ended.
Coverage of the exchange at the White House today showed up on the local, national news a well as “The Reid Out” on MSNBC and other cable news programs throughout the evening.
“Maine and the nation have finally found its new Senator Margaret C. Smith! And guess what – she is from right here in Maine! Governor Mills never has sought the limelight, but it found her. It found her to be its messenger because she is Intelligent and as unpretentious as they come. She is unquestionably dedicated to the rule of law and democracy – unlike some other Maine politicans whose motives are unclear. All those who believe in preserving democracy should be grateful to her and proud of her,” said this blogger. “Governor Mills has stood up to a bully who is also a Convicted Felon. Her stance is long overdue – especially because few politicans since Maine’s own Senator Smith have been wiling to do that.”
Once again Trump has asserted his authority, acting as dictator not as President, in an attempt to coerce the people of Maine to accept his wishes.
Fortunately Governor Mills is eager to defend the rights of all Maine’s citizens and fight back in the name of justice and the rule of law !
