Today, Governor Janet T. Mills, 77, launched her campaign for the US Senate to stand up to Donald Trump and fight for Maine people according to a press release issued this morning.
Janet Mills has never backed down from a bully. She has fought Trump head on, beating him in court when he tried to cut the school lunch program for Maine kids. As Governor, she expanded health care to more than 100,000 Maine people, guaranteed free meals to all Maine school kids, enacted free community college, fully funded Maine schools for the first time, made the largest investment in housing in Maine history, signed paid family medical leave into law, protected and expanded access to abortion and fought climate change. As Attorney General, she took on the Big Banks and Big Pharma, protecting working people and vulnerable Maine seniors.
A barrier-breaker, Janet Mills is the first woman Governor of Maine and she was the first woman Attorney General of Maine and the first woman District Attorney in Maine. She is the only Maine Democrat to have won statewide office in the past 20 years, earning more votes than any governor in Maine history and winning both of her elections with more than 50 percent of the vote – the first governor to do so in more than 50 years. She is battle tested and has consistently outperformed other Democrats.
Governor Mills is running for the US Senate to stand up to Trump and this Congress as they rip health care away from millions, undermine the lives and livelihoods of Maine people and drive up costs – all to give corporate CEOs a massive tax cut. While Susan Collins bows down to Trump and helps him hurt Maine people, Governor Mills is fighting back and winning.
