You are invited to attend a meeting on the design of a sewer separation and mini-roundabout project on Center Street on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 5:00 pm in the KIppy Richardson Conference Room 24 on the basement level in city hall in Portland.
The project is at the intersection of Pleasant Street, York Street, Center Street and Fore Street, a/k/a Gorham’s Corner. The project will separate the sewer and storm drain in the area as part of the city’s effort to reduce Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs) from discharging into Casco Bay. As part of this work, the City plans to overhaul the intersection into a mini-roundabout which will improve safety for vehicles and active transportation.
The purpose of the meeting is to gather feedback and concerns from the public.
The specifics of street impacts during construction will be determined once the project is awarded to a contractor. The city anticipates this project will go out to bid in 2026, contingent on future capital improvement plan funding allocations. Access to local businesses during active work will be maintained throughout the duration of the project, although some street closures will be necessary for the contractor to safely and efficiently complete the project.
