The Fourth Annual Fourth of July Stars & Stripes Spectacular is on track this year it was announced this morning at a breakfast meeting of the numerous sponsors who make it possible every year now. The meeting was held at Ocean Gateway on the Portland waterfront.
The only real news coming from this morning’s breakfast was that this year the fireworks will be shot from the East End Beach. Last year, for the first time in a few years, they were shot from a barge in Casco Bay. The reason for the move back to the beach is to ensure that everyone will have a spectacular view on the Hill, according to Jon Jennings.
Robert Moody, director of the Portland Symphony Orchestra said this year’s program will be similar to last year’s with a few surprises including some new soloists.
Last year’s Spectacular was postponed until the Fifth of July because of a severe thunderstorm on the Fourth.
