“A Musical Festival” on the Eastern Promenade next August is on the agenda for the City Council meeting for its approval on Monday, October 20th. The proposal calls for the Festival to be held in August on a date agreed to by the city and the promoter. The promoter is Townsquare Media Portland.
Performers for this August 2015 event have not been chosen and will not be until the City Council has approved the event. Furthermore, the city reserves the right to approve all performing artists prior to executing an official agreement. The promoter expects 6,000 – 8,000 to attend the one day Festival.
Live music will be performed by bands from 1:00 pm – 10:00 pm from a stage set up on the Cutter Street middle parking lot.
A portion of the Eastern Promenade needs to be partioned off for ticket holders. Approximately 2/3 of the park hillside will be gated ; the other l/3 of the grassy area will still be available for the public. On the event day, a number of streets on the Hill wold be closed to vehicular traffic. A rain date will be scheduled for the event.
Two years ago Mumford & Sons performed on the Eastern Promenade – with over 15,000 people attending.
Five affirmative votes from the city council are needed for passage of the Festival.
