Come in costume or don’t! Come with a friend, with a group of friends or with a family member – or don’t! But just come to the annual candy hand-out at Bayview Heights, 158 North Street on Munjoy Hill. The fun runs from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Thursday, October 31st. The costumed residents of Bayview Heights will be looking forward to seeing you again this year! Cider and donuts will be available in the lobby as well.
The Happy Halloween sign will be in front of the Haunted Heights that day to help you mark the spot where the fun takes place.
The stunning sign was designed and constructed by Doug McDonald. Doug earned a BA in Art Studio from the University of Massachusetts Lowell where he belonged to the University Players. While there, Doug performed in numerous dramas and musicals and designed and construced set designs. That was between 1974 – 1978.
Doug also constructed the first of three parts of the River of Pride flag that you see most years at the center of the Gay Pride Parade in downtdown Portland. Years later other volunteers completed the remaining two sections of the iconic Flag. to get it to its current size. Doug sewed the first part at Blackstones, at 6 Pine Street. in the west end of Portland. The Flag was the idea of a bar tender at Blackstones, a gay bar, .whose name is Bishop. The Flag belongs to Bishop because he paid for the expenses to make it. . Bishop no longer works at Blackstones nor does he live in the Portland area any longer. Doug hails from the Greater Lowell Massachusetts area This blogger is delighted that Doug lives here to bestdow his many talents on Portland!
