“We are seeking the community’s assistance in identifying the people responsible for Darien Richardson’s death,” said Chief James Craig at a press conference this morning at police headquarters on Middle Street.
In January 2010, two armed suspects entered the home of Darien Richardson and Cory Gerard. The two were awakened by the sound of gun fire, according to a press release issued by the police department. Both were shot. Darien in the hand and upper thigh. Corey in the arm. After surgery and recovery time, Darien went to Miami to help a friend move – she collapsed and was taken to a hospital where she died. The Miami-Dade County Medical Examiners has determined the manner of death as a homocide due to delayed complications of a gunshot wound of the right thigh.
Also present at the press conference were Darien’s family; her mother, Judy, her father Wayne and a younger sister, Serena. Darien grew up in Maine, attended Bowdoin College and had entered the corporate world when she started to work at Aetna Insurance her mother said. She was 25 years old.
Chief Craig said: “There was no indication she had any enemies. Everyone loved her. There was also no evidence of theft. She did not use drugs. There is someone who knows something.”
