“My heart is full of gratitude for the love,”…… VP Kamala Harris began her inspiring concession speech late this afternoon at Howard University, in Washington DC.
She acknowledged that the outcome of the election was not what we wanted. But “the light of America’s promise will always be bright,” she told the crowd amassed below her at her alma mater as she stood on a balcony.
V P Harris thanked the many who had supported her during her 2024 campaign for the presidency, giving a special shoutout to her running mate Governor Tim Walz who was present at the 15 minute speech around 4:30 pm.this afternoon.
VP Harris said she had spoken to Trump earlier in the day and assured him of a peaceful transition of power. “This is what distinguishes us from tyranny and monarchies” she told the massive crowd. – a pledge that brought a prolonged roar of approval from the still stunned crowd
“I concede the election, bu I do not concede that the fights for freedom over our bodies and the fight for dignity are over.” She urged the fight for gun safety, democracy, the rule of law and justice to oontinue. These fights must continue in the voting booths, courts and the public square. But she said a quieter fight should be fought by being kind to your neighbors by “lifting people up” and not tearing them down. “Don’t ever give up the fight,” she urged the young members in the crowd this afternoon. “Don’t despair. Roll up your sleeves and get to work. Stay engaged.”
She ended her inspirational concession speech by repeating the adage: “Only when it is dark enough can the stars be seen.” VP Harris in her parting words urged everyone to “build a sky with billions of lights of faith, truth, optimism and service.”
