On Sunday, June 25, 2023, just before 3:00 pm., police were called to the banks of the Presumpscot River in the area of the Riverside Golf Course for the report of a body discovered in the River. A man and a wman were floating in the River when they discovered the body and notified police.
Divers from the Portland Police Department were used to remove the body from the River.
The deceased appears to have been in the water for an extended period of time. The remains will be brought to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to be identified and a cause and manner of death to be determined according to a press release issued early this morning by Interim Police Chief Robert M. Martin.
In a second press release issued late today, update following the first release today, the person is said to be a 50 year old man whose death was caused by drowining. He is believed to be from out-of-state according to identification found on his person, although his identification has not been made public yet.
