Tree Lighting Ceremony Comes on Friday, November 25 as in Past Years


The annual Portland Tree Lighting Ceremony is scheduled for the Friday after Thanksgiving, November 25, 2022 in Monument Square starting at 4:00 pm.  The annual Holiday Spectacular is hosted by Hood Eggnog.  The downtown Portland Public Library, located directly across from Monument Square, will be open until 5:00 pm for anyone who wants to seek refuge from any inclement weather that afternoon.

Due to an expected snow storm in the Portland area on Wednesday, November 16, the arrival of the Monument Square Tree has been postponed to Thursday morning, Novemer 17th.

A 40′ Balsam Fir was selected to be the Monument Square Christmas tree this year.  The tree is located at the home of Anne and Toby Nappi, Westbrook.  Westbrook and Portland police will assist with escorting the tree safely to Monument Square.  Forestry crews will begin installaing lights on Thursday and hope to finish by the following Tuesday, dependig on conditions.
