Two protestors were arrested this afternoon in the aftermath of the Portland NO KINGS Day Rally at Lincoln Park.  A man and a women were arrested and taken into Police custody around 2:15 pm at the corner of Congress  and Franklin Streets.   The two were transported to the  Cumberland County Jail shortly thereafter. This followed the NO KINGS Day Rally that was scheduled to end at 1:30 pm.  .

Lincoln Park was so packed with NO KINGS Day protestors that the overflow crowd filled the surrounding streets – starting prompty at noon.  While this blogger could not get close enough to hear the speakers, the occasional roars from the crowd suggested it was liking what it heard from the speakers.

And the home crafted signs told the story of what’s  on the minds of Mainers – Mainers from all over the state who descended on Portand to protest the Trump administrations’ illegal agenda. Most of the signs  were family- friendly.  But several of them were not so family-friendly!  And there were no signs in support of Convicted Felon Trump or his puppets Senator Susan Collins (R) and Senator Angus King (I) at the Lincoln Park rally.

Unless you are a wealthy person hoping to benefit from Convicted Felon  Trump’s hoped for tax cuts that Senator Susan Collins (R) will have a chance to vote on,  there is much to rally against in the Trump administration.  This small, splinter group of protestors at the end of the major planned one,  were apparently protesting the alleged cooperation of the Cumberland County Sheriff with ICE.  A spokeswoman for Indivisible, the organizing group, said that the Portland Police have been extremely cooperative.

The two arrrested were Jeanie Joan Ferrare, 35, of Portland.   She was arrested after being ordered to get back on the sidewalk and stay out of the street.  She threw a water bottle at a police officer which struck him.  As officers were securing her, Tyler J. McGrath, 27, of Falmouth blew an air bomb directly at an officer from a close proximity, causing immediate pain in his ears.  The two were part of  a protest allegeding that the Cumberland County Sheriff was working with ICE police in its illegal deportation of innocent immigrants.

Congresswoman Chelie Pingree (D) was a speaker at the Lincoln Park rally.    However, neither  Senator Collins (R) and  Senator Angus King (I) attended the Portland rally.  It was reported that around 2,100 No Kings rallies  took place today around the country.

The NO KINGS DAY rallies across the nation are a protest against  Trump’s agenda to overthrow our democracy, institution by institution.  That includes an expensive birthday parade for him  in Washington, DC, in conjunction with the 250th anniversary of the US Army.  That’s ironic because Convicted Felon Trump never served in the military because of bone spurs, cut veterans benefits,  fired them from many federal positions, and has often called them “suckers and loosers.” That includes insulting the late Senator John McCain who was a prisoner of war in North Vietnam. The DC parade is set to start around 6:00 pm today.
