The “Birds of Back Cove Scavenger Hunt,” a child friendly event is slated to be held at Back Cove Trail on Sunday,, July 21 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Families can walk, bike and roll along the Trail searching for scavenger hunt items and stopping at five bird-themed activity stations on the Trail.
The activities have been designed specifically for children between the ages of 5 and 10, although everyone is welcome to join in the fun according to a press release issued by Portland Trails who is one of the three hosts of the event.
The Scavenger Hunt is a partnership with TEMPOArt, a non-profit that commissions temporary public art in Portland. In June, TEMPOArt installed its latest piece, “Dancing with Joy,” next to the Back Cove Trail. This installation features two 20-foot bamboo egrets and is the inspiration for the Portland Trails event. The Portland Public Library is also partnering with Portland Trails for this event. The library Bookmobile will be on site and stocked with children’s books families can check out.
“We’re so excited to be hosting an event for kids,” said Bailey O’Brien, Portland Trails Communications and Events Manager. “Families are a big segment of our trail users and we hope this event can be another way for them to spend time together outdoors this summer.”
Tickets for the event are $10. per adult and $15. per child. Children aged two and under are free. If cost is a barrier for any family, they are encouraged to reach out to Bailey O’Brien at bailey@trails.org for additional pricing options. Tickets for the event may be purchased on site the day of the event. The rain date is for the following Sunday, July 28th.
