Hiding Behind His Cell Phone from the Camera at the Rally, This Volunteer Repeatedly Accused Me of “Lying” When I Said I was a Member of the Press and Threatened To Call the “Cops” on Me Repeatedly – Until His Boss Intervened on my Behalf.
“We are here to ask Senator Susan Collins (R) to vote no on Judge Brett Kavanaugh ‘s nomination to the Supreme Court,” said Alicia Barnes, who MC’d the Rally at City Hall just after noon today. “Hold the welfare of our country above party politics,” she said for the benefit of Collins up in Bangor. She also asked for a moment of silence to remember the late US Senator John McCain who died yesterday.
“My son is a pre-existing condition. He needs health care to stay healthy and meet his needs. A vote for Kavanaugh will be a vote that would secure the oppression of marginalized people and take away hope, dignity and power from so many,” said Simalia Daniels. Heather Zimmerman had an abortion illegally years ago. It forced her into a world of secrecy and living lies she told the several hundred people today. Patty Kidder said that health care became a nightmare for her after her husband lost his job of twenty years when his employer shut down his business. “Don’t let Kavanaugh erode any more of our civil rights,” she said.
Collins has a record of voting in favor of all Supreme Court candidates that have come up for a vote. A representative of her Portland office told this blogger late last week that she will make up her mind following a public hearing. Please call her at her Portland office – 207 – 780-3573 to urge her to vote in opposition to Kavanaugh’s nomination to the US Supreme Court. Or you may write her at: One Canal Plaza, Suite 802, Portland, ME. 04101
“If Collins votes yes on the Kavanaugh nomination, there will be a big push against her re-election,” said Daniels.
Today’s event was part of a National Day of Action. Numerous local non-profits contributed to the success of today’s Rally, although attendance was lower than some Rallies in the past.
