The Fourth Annual Portland Fine Crafts Show was highly successful according to everyone involved with the event that took over a portion of downtown Congress Street for the day – a day that was beautiful in all respects. Over one hundred (100) vendors from the northeast showed off their crafts.
Last year was the first year that the annual WCSH television art show did not go forward. Officials of the Maine Craft Association were uncertain as to whether or not that would have any affect on the attendance for the Crafts Show. It did not last year. It did not this year either. The “Show stands on its own” declared one official.
This blogger has her own personal award to announce. There were so many well behaved dogs at the Show, but one caught my attention in particular: Taco, 2, is the rescued dog from Tennessee and was adopted recently by Ben & Liz Coniff (as of next year). Truth be told, Taco, was looking for snacks. Unfortunately, this blogger had none. (See above left photo).
Phil Gouldres of New York said: “For an outdoor show, it was very successful. He grossed $800. today. It was the first year for out-of-staters at this show. (See above right photo of stunning board).
“We follow Chikako Designs and go to different shows in which she presents throughout New England,” said Patti Lizotte, this afternoon. The couple spent $300. at the Show today. Ray Lizotte grew up going to craft shows because his mother was a portrait artist. “We came by it naturally. We would rather buy something handmade from a local artist then something mass produced in China,” he said. (See top right photo of couple visiting from Boston).
“It was a great show. We can’t wait until next year,” said Sadie Bliss. executive director of the Maine Crafts Association, who hosted today’s event.
