The Form of a Woman Ms. Lund Often Uses to Display Messages on a Fence in Front of Her Falmouth Home.
“There are lots of people walking around the area and I wanted them to see how far apart six feet really is,” said Nancy Lund, a retired nurse who is also an artist and an avid reader. The banner is in a public place, Route 1, Falmouth.
Ms. Lund hung the banner on a fence near her home four days ago and she has received many comments from people walking by. Mostly they are surprised at how far apart six feet is. “It is fun for kids to see how far apart 6 feet is,” said Ms. Lund, a mother of two grown sons. She created the banner on a whim and partly out of boredom during this stay at home period. The stay at home mandate was ordered recently by Governor Janet Mills to assist in preventing the spread of the COVID-19. And the order appears to be working.
Ms. Lund is an avid reader, but with libraries closed temporarily and book stores likewise closed, reading becomes more difficult to accomplish. For a recent birthday gift, a friend gave her a membership in the Book of the Month Club. Ms. Lund ticks off the names of four books, with recommendations, she has read in recent weeks.
Switching gears to a subject of mutual interest, Ms. Lund says: “Politics is so personal. I don’t understand where people get their belief in him. We need a president with empathy. Empathy for others is hugely important. You have to run the country for everyone, not just for the people who will help you win in 2020.”
“It’s about time someone wrote about it,” said Ms. Lund when she saw the front page headline of THE NEW YORK TIMES today: “Despite Timely Alerts, Trump was Slow to Act.”
Amen!
