“The Department of Education is the backbone of public education in the United States.  All students benefit from its programs, especially lower-income students, students in rural communities and students with disabiilties.  Last week, President Trump fired 50% of its employees and today  he signed an executive order to further dismantle the Education Department.  Both actions will have a profound effect on public schools and universities in Maine.

“Currently, thousands of Maine educators and tens of thousands of Maine students benefit from federal funding and DoED programs.  These funds enable educators to offer academic support, after-school and summer programming and give students greater access to higher education.

“…………Potential cuts to many programs would limit opportunities for Mainers and have devastating consequences for our communities.  The Maine Education  Association (MEA) will continue to advocate alongside parents and educators for well-resourced public schools  — from early childhood through higher education that allow every student to thrive,” said Maine Education Association President Jesse Hargrove in a press release issued early this evening.

“According to a poll revealed on the  MSNBC Rachel Maddow show tonight, 60% of Americans don’t support the dismantling of the Department of Education by President Trump,” noted this blogger.

  1. We cannot lose these services for our children. If we lose these fundamental necessities for our children
Not to mention so many other things… where the hell are our tax dollars going. Our constitution was set up so no one would have ultimate power unchecked. Yet it seems that he is doing anything he wants. And no one is saying a word. There has to be a way to let the President know.
    That there are limits..

    • I agree with your Arthur. For the time being at least, I think the courts are our best hope to push back against these illegal actions of Convicted Felon Trump. Their decisions speak volumes I believe. Carol
