A Group of the Thirty Vendors who Participated in the Gulf of Maine Research Expo Seaweed Week Kickoff in 2024.
You and your family are invited to participate in the 7th Annual Seaweed Week – April 25 – May 4, 2025 – an event that is bigger and better than ever before!
For that week, Josh Rogers, founder of the celebration and owner of Heritage Seaweed, 61 India Street, is once again bringing you a seaweed-centered celebration that stretches across the entire state of Maine.
During the week over 70 restaurants, breweries and businesses will be featuring unique seaweed food and drink specials on their menus.
A partial list of those participating in the Greater Portland area include: Bar Futo, Central Provisions, Chaval, Duckfat, Luke’s Lobster, Regards, and Union Restaurant. Additionally, Hardshore Distilling and Botanically Curious will be participating as well. More locations are added each week. So check the web page to see if your favorite restaurant/bar is on the list. If it isn’t, ask why not?!
To check out seaweed merchandise, pay a visit to Heritage Seaweed, on the east end of Portland. That’s where shop owner Josh Rogers, and founder of Seaweed Week, carries a wide selection of seaweed products for your consideration. The selection includes sea lettuce, seaweed seasonings, salsa, hot sauce and popcorn. Additionally, there are also seaweed-based skincare items, cookbooks and carefully curated Maine made gifts.
One of the highlights of the week comes on Saturday, April 26 at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute, 350 Commercial Street on the Portland waterfront. This is the second yeat that the Gulf of Maine has hosted this special day that runs from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm. There will be 50 (20 more than last year) organizations, businesses farmers, harvesters, makers and artists participating in this free and all-age friendly exploration of seaweed. That includes a panel, kelp farm demonstrations, sea-weed inspired paintings, a marketplace, food trucks and much more.
Last year Josh Rogers said that he hopes to expand this event every year. This year he has kept his promise with more restauraunts involved and more vendors at GMRI on the waterfront. See what else he has planned for this week!
