Serious Two Car Collision on Marginal Way

Ten people “significantly” injured have  been transferred  to two area hospitals following a two car collision on Marginal Way  that occured at 11 am this morning.  Around 1 pm, it was still not known by police officers on the scene whether any deaths had occured.

A 2002 Ford Explorer, driven by 44 year old Sebastian Bukuru, Westbrook, crossed the center line in front of # 132 Marginal Way and struck a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee head on. (Near Trader Joes.) There were 6 occupants in the Explorer, two currently in critical condition at Maine Medical Center. There were 4 occupants in the Jeep, all in serious condition according to a press release just issued by the City of Portland.

Those on the scene of the accident this morning said it appeared that the driver lost control of the vehicle.  The driver hit several cars along the way and just past Trader’s Joe, hit  the Jeep that resulted in the accident.  

Witnesses who saw the aftermath  said there were ambulances scattered all over the area.  Two witnesses saw a small child being put into an ambulance.

That section of Marginal Way was closed to traffic until around 3:30 pm. while an on-site investigation was conducted.
