Collins Pedals Backwards to Salvage Reelection; Bernie Sanders Endorses Oyster Farmer Platner

John McVey, is Visiting Portland from San Antonio, Texas and Considering Relocating Here.

Dr. Nirav Shah, Appeared on MSNBC Cable News Last Night -Saying the firing of the Executie Didrector of US CDC “will not make us Safer or Healthier.”  He has Expressed Interest in Running for Maine’s Next Governor, Replacing Governor Janet T. Mills.

Graham Platner, An Oyster Farmer and Vet from Down East Has Pledged to Take on Collins for her Seat in the 2026 Senate Race.   Senator Bernie Sanders, of Vermont, has Endorsed Mr. Platner in His Run to Defeat Senator Collins Over Annonced Democratic  Challengers.

Senator Susan Collins (R) is pedaling as hard as her slight and aging body will allow.  But, she’s pedaling backwards, not forwards.  The Senator is trying to  salvage her sinking reelection campgin. So, it’s hard to figure out where and what she pedals on in any issue on any given day because of the conflict she’s ownsq

This is complicated by the fact that during normal work hours, 9 – 5, no one is answering her DC office phone.  Rather, there is an answering machine that says how sorry the Senator is too have missed your telephone call.  What?  Additdionally, it is a well-known factoid that she has not held a town hall in 20 years.

Her reelection campgin is currently “double digits undewater” according to Devon Murphy- Anderson, Chair of Maine’s Democratic party.

For example, Senator Collins voted for Robert J. Kennedy, Jr. to be Secretary of the US Department of  Health & Human Services.  This despite his well known reputation as an anti-vaxer activist with no medical background to support his unscientific position.  Kennedy’s  a nut job. Even his siblings warned of this before his  Congressional approval.

Now Senator Collins says she’s “extremely alarmed” at Kennedy’s firing of Susan Monarez as the director of the CDC over a dispute with Kennedy over vaccine policy.  What does the Senator expect?  .  Nothing disrespectful Senator, but when were you born?

This blogger queried of Senator Collins’ communications director Kernen Blake whether or not the Senator is an anti-vexer herself – hence her support for Secretary Kennedy.’s position as Secretary of the Department.   Mr. Blake did not respond to that query.  The Senator used to claim she was pro-abortion.  However, she voted for Justice Kavanagh, a well-known anti-abortion advocate.  “Senator Collins is spinning her wheels and not getting any traction,” said this blogger.  “Watch how she votes rather than what she says.”

The Senator is pedaling harder and harder and loosing ground every day.  She is spinning her wheels. That’s because she has not only the popular Governor Janet T. Mills (D) bearing down on her as a possible opponent in the 2026, Senate race.  The Governor has said she will decide in November 2025 whether or not to run for Collins seat.  But a newcomer to Maine politics has caught the attention of Mainers and the nation as well..

Last night, Graham Platner appeared in a cameo segment on a late news cable  program.  He pledged his support for the working class who have lost Medicaid access, watched prices go up and made the purchase of a home unrealistic for far too many.  Mr. Platner grew up in a small town in Hancock County.  “I don’t stay away from people with whom I don’t agree,” he said.  Of Senator Collins he has said:  “When she breaks with her party, it’s almost always on votes that they’re going to pass anyway.  People understand what’s going on.  Mainers aren’t stupid.  Everybody gets it.”  In the first nine days of his campaign, Platner has raised over $1 million and attracted 3,000 volunteers.  Platner said that even if Governor Mills decides to run, he will continue his run for Collins’ seat.  “I don’t believe that Governor Mills has any intention to run for the Senate next year.  I think she decided that a long time ago” said thi blogger.

Today Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont endorsed Mr. Platner for his run to defeat Senator Collins in DC.  “Graham is a US Marine and a National Guard veteran, an oyster farmer and a proud member of America’s working class,” said the Senator in his endodrsement statement prior to his arrival in Portland on Labor Day.  The Sanders endorsement continued:  “He’s a Mainer through and through and he is building a movement strong enough to take on the oligarchy that is making Maine unaffordabcle for all except a privileged few.  I look forward to Graham joining me in Washington.”

John McVey, a retired attorney visiting from San Antonio, Texas said of Senator Collins yesterday:  “She’s disingenuous and it’s a pattern of hers.  Her complicity with the evil MAGA is well known outside of Maine.”   San Antonio where Mr. McVey is from is a “blue bubble”, he said. But he’s thinking of relocating to Portland  because of the “lunatics” who reside in other parts of Texas.

Where’s my Bill Green?  It was the  sports/outdoor  announcer for Channel 6 who dragged the senator over the finish line. and to another term in DC..  Will the next Bill Green please stand up?

Many politicians are calling for the resignation of Secretary Kennedy.  Is Senator Collins joining them?
