At approximaely 6:00 pm., on Sunday, the Coast Guard suspended its search for two fishermen who went missing off the coast of Cutler according to a press release from the Coast Guard received late this afternoon. The reason given for the lateness in notifying this blog of his tragic news is that munjoyhillnews.com is not on its press release list of the Coast Guard in South Portland.
At around 5:00 pm on Saturday it was reported that two fishermen aboard a 34-foot scallop vessel had become unreachable and had not returned to its mooring in South Addison. The vessel had departed from Cobscook Bay State Park at approximately 5:00 am that mmorning. After reportig unfavorable sea condtions, the crew had planned to seek refuge near Cutler, but has not been located.
Since the search started on Saturday evening, the Coast Guard coordinated the search effort of 11 rescue crews from five partnering agencies that searched for more than 42 hours combined and 950 sq. miles of ocean and coastline.
