“We have outstanding artists and I want everyone to know about them,” said Kate Anker, owner and director of Running With Scissors Studios, toward the end of the second day of a busy, busy three day Holiday Market this afternoon.  It was a busy event for sure, but Anker generously took a break from it all to answer some questions from this blogger.

An artist by education, Anker has made the transition from a printmaker to business owner since she purchased the business in 2011 from the founders.  Now she has six part-time employees and a studio of 80 artists with waiting lists for each of the three sections within Running With Scissors.  Different artists have different requirements.  Fortunately, the zoning in the area is ILB;  industrial light zoning – which meets special requirements of jewelry makers and others renting space at the 250 Anderson Street location. “Ventilation for jewelry makers is an important consideration,” she said. There is a three month minimum rentail commitment Anker said.

Married to a businessman, Aaron Anker, has a degree in retaurant and hotel management. Kate finds his “entrepreneurial spirit” a real asset for her.  “It helps to have a partner who is an entrepreneur.  He understands the risks it takes and when to grow and when not to,” she said.  “He understands the patience it all takes.”  Aaron is the owner of “Grandy Organics.

More than half of the artists at Running With Scissors are exhibiting in this weekends Holiday Market.”We have jewelry, ceramics, paintings and a wide variety of other products for sale at this show,” said Kate.  “They are all intended for great gift giving this holiday season.”

The third and final day of the Holiday Market, 250 Anderson Street, runs from Noon – 5:00 pm. on Sunday, December 11, 2022.  Free parking is available on site.
