Keli Hoyt-Rupert, Founder and CEO of Tandem Mobility, was thrilled with the first month of operations in Portland she said at a red ribbon cutting ceremony this morning on the Portland waterfront. “We had 2200 riders by 800 different riders between August 15 2022 and Septenber 14, 2022,” she told an audience of mostly city employees and sponsors of the Program on the Portland waterfront.
As of today, Tandem-Mobility has 145 bikes stationed at various locations throughout Portland. Starting on Monday, the new company will be launching E-bikes. There will be 25 to start and working up to 50 in Portland she said.
“When we were first approached it was a pretty easy decision to want to support thie bike share program,” said Jeff Pillet-Shore, Marketing Director for Allagash. “We were so encouraged by the partnership that the city and MaineDOT had established to sponsor this station,” Jeff said referring to the bike station located at the corner of Commercial and Dana Streets on the Portland waterfront. Allagash was approached about nine months ago to sponsor this station and never hesitated from the get-go.
Christine Grimando, Director of the Planning and Urban Development, in her opening remarks said that a good idea like this can be complicated. There were a lot of parties working together to make it happen. She cited the commitment of Bruce Hyman, Transportation Program Manager, for the city of Portland, and his many year commitment to the establishment of a bike share program in Portland.
Hoyt-Rupert said that this is the largest of her customer base of over 25 cities so it was important for her to be here today. She is Boston-based.
