Tonight Republicans caved to the pressure of Convicted Felon Trump when they voted to narrowly confirm Pete Hegseth as the Secretary of Defense. The tie vote 50 – 50 was broken by VP JD Vance as the President of the Senate around 10:00 pm this evening.
Three Republicans voted against the Hegseth nomination this evening. The three were Senator Susan Collins (R-ME), Senator Lisa Murkowski and Senator Mitch McConnell. If one more Republican had the spine to vote against the nomination, Hegseth’s nomination would have been defeated. It was the closest vote for the Secretary of Defense in our nation’s history. Senator Collins is up for re-election in 2026. She may be feeling a squeeze from CF’s Machine and Maine Democrats who are eyeing a run at her Senate seat next year..
Prior to the vote, Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) speaking against the confirmation said that this nomination is an example of being a chaos change agent that completely lacks merit. Senator Blumenthal went on to say that Republican senators have privately expressed concern about this nomination because of his abuse of alcohol, abuse of women, mismanagement of workplace funds and lack of managerial experience. If a secret ballot had been held, Hegseth’s nomination would not have succeeded Senator Blumenthal said.
Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) said that Republicans are living in fear of Trump. This close vote tonight means instability at the Pentagon.” Senator Duckworth is a combat veteran of the Iraq War who served as a US Army helicopter pilot. In 2004, her Black Hawk heicopter was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade fired by Iraqi troops. She lost both of her legs because of that hit. “This is not John McCain’s Republican party anymore.”\
Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) said: “We are taking this case straight to the people. This nomination will succeed with the narowest vote of any defense secretary ever.”
One cable news contributor said the only qualifications for this position are to be “white and on Fox News.”
“News reports this blogger has heard claim that CF wqn the presidental election with a narrow victory of less than 50% of the popular vote. That is not a big mandate as CF claims it to be. His blanket pardoning of the January 6 criminals is grossly unpopular and not what he was voted into office for. Where are his plans to roll back the high costs of food and housing and other basics? How long will it be before his supporters realize they’ve been used by CF as his get out of jail ticket?”
