An anti-environment, pro-pollution stance with crippling cuts to the Environmental Protection Act (EPA) and policy provisisons that will devastate public health, strain the economy and increase costs generally is the centerpiece of a 2025 House Appropriations funding bill said Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Me) in a press release issued today by her office. The Republican proposed bill also slashes funding for National Parks and arts programs.

“Climate change is a clear and present danger and experts agree that we must take bold action to avoid major, irrerversible catasthrope.    Just last week, one-fifth of all Americans were under extreme heat advisories, with record-breaking temperatures felt across my home state of Maine.  It seems like every year when we meet to mark up this bill there is a new record broken for extreme heat.  So, I am greatly disappointed and frustrated that the bill before us  completely disregards the reality of a warming planet and ignores the need to do more, not less,” Congreswwoman Pingree said.    “With that understanding, cuttting funding for the EPA  by $1.8 billion or 20% is irresponsible and seveely impacts needed investments in evironmental justice, enforcement and climate change.  If we are going to preserve the health of our environment and our economic well-being, we need to reduce greenhouose emissions and increase our efforts to respond to and mitigate against harmful climate impacts.”l
