The publicly accessible drop-off recycling containers currently located on Somerset Street are in the process of being temporarily relocated to two new locations effective on Saturday, January 16, 2016 according to a press release from the City of Portland. Four of the “silver bullet” containers will be placed in Angelo’s Acre, located on West Commercial Street across from the International Marine Terminal. The other five will be moved to the Riverside Recycling Facility at 910 Riverside Street. The City’s Public Works Department will be in charge of the relocations happening on Friday, January 15, 2016.
The containers will be available in their new locations starting on Saturday, January 16 and open from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm seven days a week at the West Commercial Street site, (Angelo’s Acre) and from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm (Mon-Sat) at Riverside Recycling. The containers are being moved to make way for the Midtown housing development construction.
It is anticipated that the City and Federated Companies, Jon Cox, president, will finally close on the controversial housing development during the first part of 2016. The City is in the midst of planning a public meeting to be held in February to discuss the impacts of construction related to several major infrastructure improvement projects that will soon begin in the area surrounding the Bayside neighborhood.
Details of the meeting will be announced as soon as they are available.
