COVID-19 self-swab testing for the public and airline passengers begins today at the Portland Jetport. Testing is free and available daily between 9:00 am – thourgh 5:00 pm. according to a press release issued by the Jetport this morning. No ending date was mentioned in the press release.
Appointments for self-swab tests may be made at curative.com. Curative offers rapid shallow nasal PCR testing for COVID-19. Once the patient completes the test, the results are delivered efficiently and quickly to patients. Results are delivered within one to two hours following the self-swab test. The lab work is performed on site rather than being mailed to a lab – which takes longer to get the results. The patient may determine at the time of the self-swab test whether the results are wanted via email or text.
“I came here because of the rapid test. Results will come in here to me in one to two hours,” said Nathan Levy, a high school senior from Brunswick. He said that there is a one to two day test – a PCR test available in Brunswick, but he didn’t want to wait that long to get the results back. He said his mother made the appointment on-line early this morning and he was able to get right in just a few hours later. There was no wait for the self-swab test early today.
“The Portland Jetport is pleased to resume COVID-19 testing for passengers traveling and to assist our community at-large,” said Paul Bradbury, Airport Director. “We are pleased that Curative has agreed to work with us to provide this needed resource,” he said.
Curative is a new company founded by two brothers in March of 2020. It’s home base is San Dimas, California. It was founded to identify Sepsis through its testing abilities. But since the COVID-19 pandemic, it has turned its focus to testing for COVID-19 exclusively.
It was a very different story at the nearby “Booster Blitz” clinic at the former Pier 1 site at 368 Maine Maine Road, in South Portland. The walk-in booster clinic that opened yesterday, December 14, at 1:00 pm., served 1,100 clients in its opening day. according to Jacqueline Welsh, an official with Northern Light Health Home Care & Hospice. It was expected that those same numbers, 1,100, would be achieved today as well. People began lining up for booster shots well before noon yesterday. “Everyone is so thankful and most appreciative for this service. No one has been upset about the wait.” said Welsh this afternoon. Free booster shots will be available through December 22 at 7:00 pm. For more background information on the “Booster Blitz,” pleae visit post herein dated December 13, 2021.
The longest wait this blogger found at the former Pier 1 space, was 45 minutes. The warmish December temperatures made the wait less objectionable for those waiting in line.
Please fast forward to December 26, 2021 for the latest information on self-administered, walk-in, swab testing at the Portland Internatonal Jetport.
