Monument Square Where the Peaceful Dmonstration Will be Held on Friday Morning; 10:00 am – Noon.

A pro-abortion peaceful demonstration is scheduled for Friday, April 13, at 10:00 am – noon in Portland’s Monument Square, 456 Congress Street.  Participants are asked to wear black and make it clear that they are pro-abortion.

Every Friday anti-abortion extremeists protest outside of the nearby Portland Planned Parenthood.  Around 10:00 am – or 11:00 am they move their protest to Monument Square.  Leaders then begin to shout anti-women, anti-lgbtq, anti-Black and anti- human rhetoric at pedestrians in the area. These protestors travel around  New England using the same tactics at independent clinics.  In previous years, we’ve been taught to ignore these religious extremeists.  But they have recently become emboldened.  Ignoring them isn’t working.

We will gather with pro-choice, pro-abortion shirts and signs and non-electronic devises that make noise (no amps please).  Those may include cow bells, boom boxes, and instruments, etc.  When anti-abortion protestors begin to preach, we will silently circle them and then, let the sound begin.  We’ll drown out their noise with positive sound levels, music, signing, chants, etc.

Please stay in Monument Square and do not leave it.  This demonstration is not hosted by Planned Parenthood. It is a Womens March event. Please do not engage personally with any of the anti-abortion demonstrators.
