On Monday, August 3, 2026, the Portland Police Department will conduct an enhanced traffic safety operation aimed at improving roadway safety for everyone who lives, works and travels in Portland. Increased traffic enforcement is one of the City’s objectives listed in its Vision Zero Action Plan to reduce pedestrian incidents. This operation will be followed by increased traffic enforcement in the weeks and months ahead.
Throughout the day, addiional officers will be deployed in neighborhoods and along roadways across Portand, with a particular focus on locations where traffic complaints, crashes and unsafe driving behaviors have been identified. Officers will also patrol throughout the city to address traffic violations tht put motorists pedestrians and bicyclists at risk..
Enforcement efforts will focus on violaltions such as speeding, distracted driving, failure to yield, stop sign and traffic signal violations impaired driving and other hazardous driving behaviors.
“Our goal is simply to reduce crashes and make our streets safer for everyone,” said Chief Mark Dubois. “Traffic laws exist to protect people and we hope this initiative serves as a reminder for all drivers to slow down, stay alert, and share the road responsibly.” It was three years ago today, July 31, that Chief Dubois became the 21st Chief of Police in Portland. His swearing in ceremony was held on July 28, 2026 at Police Headquarters in Portland.
