A woman who was walking and talking on her phone last Thursday evening around 9:40 pm on Gray Street in the west end was punched several times in the face and head. She fell to the ground and the suspect continued punching her before leaving the scene in an unknown direction according to a press release issued by the Portland Police several days ago.
The suspect was described as a white male with a slim build, standing 5’5″ – 6″ tall and wearing dark clothing and possibly a ski mask and hood. Anyone with information on this attack is asked to contact the Portland Police at 207 – 874-8584.
On another matter, a series of thefts in which suspects are removing catalytic converters from vehicles is under investigation by the Portland Police Department according to a second press release issued several days ago as well. These incidents follow regional and national trends of increasing thefts. The stolen materials are often sold for cash. It’s been observed that various vehicles have been targeted including smaller sedans as well as larger buses and box trucks parked overnight.
Vehicle owners are advised to park in well-lit areas and to make sure security alarms are working. If anyone sees suspicious activity, including one or more people attempting to access the underside of a vehicle, please call the police at; 874-8575.
