The Homeless Living Under a Local Overpass are Vulnerable to All KInds of Criminal Behavior.

Just after 11:30 p.m. last night, Tuesday, August 30, 2022, Portland Police responded to the area of Cumberland Avenue at Cedar Street for the report of a man unconscious on the sidewalk.

The 27 year old victim, a homeless man from Portland, was the victim of an assault and an apparent robbery.  He was transported to Maine Medical Center where he is being treated for injuries  that are not considered to be life threatening, but he remains unconscious. Investigators have not been able to speak with him according to a press release issued by the Portland Police Department late this morning.

While investigating this assault, officers were informed that gunshots were heard in the area of Oxford Street and Cedar Street shortly before they were sent to this call.  Evidence was collected confirming that there was a shooting and it is believed that the two incidents are related.

There is no indication that there is any danger to the public at this time.
