Three Officers Involved in Deadly Shooting at Casco Bay Lines

On Thursday, August 27th, 2026, at approximately 9:32 pm., the Portand Regional Communications Center (PRCC) started receiving calls about shots fired in the area of the Spring Street at Oak Street Portland.  Portland Police responded to the area but did not locate anyone.  A short time later, the PRCC received a call about a shirtless male, armed with a firearm threatening staff at Nova Seafood at 555 Commercial Street.

The male was later identified as Jacob Hastings, 37.  Prior to the officer’s arrival, Mr. Hastings fled in a stolen pick-up truck.  We received several more reports of crashes and vehicles stolen at gunpoint.  Oficers located Mr . Hastings on Congress Street and pursued the vehicle.  Mr. Hastings fled down Franklin Arterial before pulling into Caso Bay LInes at 56 Commercial Street.  When entering the lot, he crashed and disabled the car.  Mr. Hastings then fled on foot and Officers pursued hi into the outdoor terminal of Casco Bay Lines while issuing commands to him.  Mr. Hastings failed to follow commands, reached into his wasteband and presented his hands as though he had a firemarm in the direction of officer and was shot.

Officers administered emergency medical aid and Portand MEDCU pronounced him deceased at the scene.  A firearm was later recovered in one of the stolen vehicles.

Officershih Anthony George, Jordin Jackson and Greg Ishihara have all been placed on adminisrative leave as in standard practice when officers are involved in a deadly force incident.  The Office of the AG will be investigating the use of deadly force.
