Renovations have begun this week on the new 5,000 sq. ft. storefront that is to become Portland Food Co-op this fall.
“Since coming on board with the Portland Food Co-op this spring, I have been looking forward primarily to two things – the day we start the renovations of our new storefront and the day we open the doors to the Portland community. I’m proud to say that the first is happening this week and the second will soon become reality” said Kevin Gadsby. Co-op general manager in a press release issued today. :”I look forward in the coming weeks to focus on hiring a dynamic, inspired team of staff members that will serve the needs of t his city and beyond, working daily to promote the many great farmers and food producers of our region. I’m grateful to all the member-owners who have joined the Portland Food Co-op and so glad they continue to spread the word to friends and family who want to support and have a stake in the community market.”
The Co-op recently met and surpassed its original campaign goal of signing up 1,000 new member-owners. With the new original member-owners, now stands at over 1,500. But the Cop-op continues to actively seek new member-owners and secure loans from members to ensure the success of the market. Signing up takes only a few minutes at www.Portlandfood.coop.
Some of the features of the new storefront will be:
A vast array of locally sourced organic fresh produce; a full assortment of bulk items; local dairy, cheese and meat, regional and Maine produced craft beers and win; a community inspired cafe seating area and an engaging environment with a friendly, knowledgeable staff ready to serve the public.
The Portland Food Co-op will be a grocery store, owned by members and open to the public, that will offer a wide selection of high quality and fairly priced local, organic and natural foods and household products. The Co-op is dedicated to supporting local farmers and producers, serving the community and building the local economy. The Co-op will be located at 290 Congress Street with a projected open date of Fall 2014. Learn more at www.portlandfood.coop
