Mary Erin Casale, 32, and Kai Smith were married this past Saturday, June 21st in the Chapel at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception at 1:00 pm. The service was followed by a reception at Shady Lane Farm.
Mary Casale, mother of the bride, gave her daughter away. The matron of honor was the bride’s sister, Katherine Casale Brewer. She wore a poppy colored gown with a sweetheart neckline. Her bridesmaid was Victoria Chelsea Smith, sister of the groom. She likewise wore a poppy colored gown. There were two groomsmen. The flower girl was Olivia Brewer, 9, and her brother, Mitchell Brewer, 5, a niece and nephew of the bride.
The bride, Ms. Casale, who is keeping her maiden name, is the Executive Director of the State Democratic Committee. The groom, Mr. Smith, is an entrepreneur, who is a part-owner of Buoy Local – a new company that supports local businesses by offering gift cards.
Ms. Casale is the daughter of Mary Casale and the late Joseph D. Casale. He was a Mayor of Portland as well as a local businessman. He died in 1999. Ms. Casale grew up on Munjoy Hill in the same house in which her mother still lives. She is the fourth generation to grow up on the Hill. She attended Portland High School. She graduated Simmons College with a degree in political science. Mr. Smith is the son of Audrey Maynard and Kaighn Smith, Portland.
“I know it’s been a busy spring for my daughter with her job and planning a wedding. Iknow they wanted an eloquent wedding and that’s what they got,” said a happy Mother of the Bride as her Munjoy Hill home.
The couple will be living in Falmouth following several days at the Samoset Hotel.
