Cars Were Parked on the Eastern Prom on Munjoy Hill This Afternoon in Preparation for the Parking Ban Tonight, Starting at 10:00 pm.
The city of Portland has declared a citywide parking ban for the next two evenings.
Specifically, the parking ban begins tonight, Friday, March 3 at 10:00 pm and ends Saturday morning at 6:00 am. It resumes starting Saturday, March 4 at 10:00 pm., ending at 6:00 am on Sunday morning. Due to the timing of this storm and the amount of snow expected (12-18 inches), the city is declaring a two-night parking ban for both Friday and Saturday nights.
This means residents can park their cars in the designated snow ban lots and garages and leave them there until Sunday morning. The city does not want residents to have to move their cars on Saturday morning during the height of the storm. This will allow Public Works crews to be more efficient with keeping streets clear.
Vehicles left on city streets after 10:00 pm can be towed at the owner’s expense. The city-owned parking garages on Elm Street and Spring Street will be open for snow ban parking and will offer their $3. rate for each night, $6. total. Cars must enter after 5:00 pm tonight and leave on Sunday by 8:00 am. Vehicles that enter earlier or stay later will be charged the hourly rate.
