Portland Police Update The Public on Forest Avenue Homicide This Afternoon

On July 30, 2024, at approximately 8:45 pm., Portland Police responded to the area of 1155 Forest Avenue for the report of a shooting.  Four people were transported to the hospital with injuries from this altercation.  Susan McHugh, 54, of Gray succumbed to her injuries and her death has been ruled a homicide.

Three males were injured and one remains hospitalized.

A 45-year old male of New Hampshire was treated and released the night of the incident; A 45 -year old adult male of Yarmouth was hospitalized and recently released from the hospital; A 51 year old adult male of Gray remains hospitalized.

Police have not made an arrest and the investigation remains very active with investigators executing multiple search warrants.

“We are working with locak, State and Federal agencies to identify and build evidence to support both an arrest and conviction of those responsible for the murder of Susan McHugh,” said Police Chief Dubois.

“We have released very little information and realize the anxiety that this has caused the public.  The decision to withhold the release of information is not taken lightly.  We release information after consultation with the investigating detectives and prosecutors with the Attorney General’s office.  The decision is made after weighing several factors and is a collaboration between everyone,” said Chief Dubois.  “There are more than a dozen investigators working exclusively on this investigation.”
